Voorgestelde restaurant by Waterkant
The Stilbaai Business Forum (SBF) serves on the Ward 3 Ward Committee and regularly participates in discussions on matters affecting the development of Stilbaai and the local business environment.
Below is a brief summary of the key matters discussed during the June meeting.
Julie se Baai Development
The proposed development of a portion of Julie se Baai was discussed in detail. The concept includes an adventure and cycling park, camping and glamping facilities, a coffee shop, and other amenities aimed at promoting sports tourism and community activities.
During the discussion, it was acknowledged that the development could offer significant economic and community value. However, it was also emphasised that the Council should have sufficient objective information available before making a long-term decision regarding the leasing of municipal property.
The matter will now proceed through the prescribed municipal processes, including public participation and consideration of comments and alternative proposals, before a final decision is made by Council.
Proposed Restaurant at Waterkant
The application for a container kiosk and outdoor restaurant on municipal land at Waterkant was also discussed.
The report presented to the Ward Committee referred to recommendations previously submitted by the SBF to the Municipality during the review of informal trading areas. The Property Management Department considered these principles relevant to the current application and therefore included them as part of the report.
The SBF welcomes this approach, as it contributes to a more integrated and strategic approach to spatial planning and economic development, rather than considering individual applications in isolation.
The Role of the SBF
The SBF remains committed to working constructively with the Municipality and other stakeholders to promote responsible economic development, fair competition, and sustainable growth in Stilbaai.
We will continue to monitor matters affecting the local business community closely and provide constructive input where necessary.
